THE family and friends of a Southampton singer who appeared in the Eurovision Song contest will pay tribute to him at his funeral tomorrow.
Kevin Finn, whose stage name was Danny Finn, died at the age of 70 after a short illness.
He became a member of the chart topping group, The New Seekers in 1976 and married the legendary lead singer Eve Graham.
The couple lived in Eve’s native Scotland and the funeral will be on Monday at St Ninian’s Cathedral, Perth.
Messages of condolences have been posted on Eve Graham’s website.
She described Kevin as her soul mate and in a message said: “Anyone who can’t be with us please think of Kevin on that day.”
There is also a tribute to his musical career on a New Seekers’ website.
Millions of TV viewers watched Kevin as the lead singer of Prima Donna which represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest.
The group nearly snatched Euro glory in 1980 with its very upbeat song of Love Enough For Two which finished in third place, with 106 points.
A tribute has been posted on the Eurovision Through The Years website which says: “Danny had a superb voice and carried the whole programme as the lead singer.”
It was in his hometown of Southampton that Kevin cut his musical teeth.
As a starry eyed youngster he watched DJs and groups play at Saturday teen dance sessions at The Gaumont, Southampton which today is The Mayflower.
In his biography notes Kevin said: “I just had to buy a guitar and play in a band.”
His big break in showbiz came when he answered an advert in local paper from a local showbiz entrepreneur who was looking for a singer to sign.
The first thing he did was to change the budding pop star’s name to Kevin Scott.
Southampton based Kevin Scott and The Kinsmen enjoyed success on the local and national rock circuit.
Kevin then became the lead singer with the Wishful Thinking and later joined The New Seekers where he met Eve Graham and they married..
After the couple left The New Seekers they became a singing duo and did a United Kingdom tour with American sixties superstar Gene Pitney.
