POLICE have shut down numerous cash points as part of an investigation into "tampering".
Residents were left concerned after seeing at least half a dozen ATM machines taped up across Eastleigh town centre this morning.
They were covered in police tape with 'police aware' messages stuck on them.
They included the one outside Tesco, the post office in the High Street, Lloyds, Halifax and Barclays.
Police said they were investigating a number of cases of tampering with cashpoints in Eastleigh.
They confirmed they had sealed off the cash machines yesterday evening and told anyone concerned or who may have lost money to contact them.
Police confirmed that two men, a 28-year-old from London and a 24-year-old, have both been arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft and theft from an automated machine following an incident at Barclays Bank in Eastleigh.
They have been bailed until May 9.
As reported by the Daily Echo yesterday, a cash machine in Chandler's Ford was blown up by thieves.
The criminals managed to make off with cash in that incident, but it is not known how much.
