MORE than 150 people will step out to help make a woman's dream of raising £50,000 for charity a reality.

Sue Bilsland lost her fight against cancer earlier this month having spent the last two and a half years fundraising to help others.

But her family and friends had vowed to continue her work in her memory and have now hit the £40,000 mark.

The grandmother-of-three died having raised £38,000 but had always aimed to make £50,000 for Cancer Research UK.

With £10,000 to go, Sue's sister Linda Edwards is hoping that the Sue's Walk fundraiser this Sunday will get them over the line.

Sue herself had hoped to be well enough to make it to the five-mile charity trek in Winchester, but now friends and family will be walking in her memory and want as many people to join them as possible.

The 52-year-old, from Stanmore Lane, Stanmore, Winchester, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2012, which after treatment and two operations, eventually went into remission.

But in October 2014 the mother-of-three and stepmother-of-two was given the shock news on a routine check up that the cancer had returned and she was given two years to live.

While in remission the former support worker for adults with learning disabilities had started fundraising initially aiming for £200.

But she went on to devote her time selling people’s unwanted donated items through a Facebook group and organising charity events.

Around 200 people turned out for Sue's funeral last week.

More than 50 have signed up to the walk, which sets off and finishes at the bottom of Wharf Hill starting at 10am, since the Daily Echo featured the campaign following Sue's death.

"We're hoping to get £50,000 by the time the walk is finished - that's what she wanted to do before she left us," said Linda, 63, of Bishopstoke.

Fundraising will continue beyond the £50,000 in Sue's memory after she made her best friend Cat Tubby promise to continue her legacy.

Sue’s Walk costs £10 to enter or you can get sponsored or fundraise instead above £10.
