PROPOSALS for a new home in Southampton have been thrown out due to fears residents would be living in a “dark and subterranean, cavern-like environment”.

The plans for the one-bedroom dwelling at 167 Peartree Avenue were filed with the city council earlier this year.

However, they have been rejected due to concerns from council officers about the living conditions they would create, and that the building would be out of character with its surroundings.
