Associated British Ports has chosen to support Hampshire-based Honeypot Children’s Charity for 2016.

Founded in 1996, Honeypot works to enhance the lives of vulnerable children and young carers, aged five to 12 years old.

They are unique as they are the only charity in the UK to provide respite breaks and on-going outreach support throughout a child’s formative years.

The charity gives young carers a break from demanding and stressful responsibilities at home and provides a safe, nurturing environment where children at risk can develop their full potential.

Honeypot House is located in the New Forest, and has seven acres of idyllic grounds where children can be children.

Each Friday, they pick up12 children from school, for a weekend of fun activities and time away from the stressful responsibilities they face at home.

The charity also provides outreach support with the Honeypot Playbus.

This is a specially adapted mobile play centre, where children who experience similar difficulties and deprivation in their lives meet, play and socialise in a non-judgmental, safe and therapeutic environment. The playbus focuses on play, fun and interaction between peers with the support of positive adult role models.

Each Honeypot child is visited three times a year in their own community by the bus, giving them the rare opportunity to play freely.

Laura Coleman, Regional Fundraising Manager, presented members of the ABP Southampton Marine Department with a Friends of Adeona Award in recognition of their wonderful contribution towards the charity after they raised £7165.75 by taking part in the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Challenge during the Easter weekend.
