A NEW high speed ferry which will operate between Southampton and Cowes emerged from the shed for the first time today.
Red Funnel’s new £6m Red Jet was towed out of Columbine shipyard at East Cowes and was moved by barge from Venture Quays to Empress Dock in Southampton this afternoon.
On arrival, heavy-lift cranes will lower her into the water for the very first time.
She will then be towed back to Venture Quays for the completion of her fit-out alongside at Venture Quays.
The aluminium craft, which has been built by Shemara Refit, is due undertake sea trials next month prior to a naming ceremony on July 4.
The vessel has been wrapped in a vinyl skin rather than painted in a move to save weight, improve fuel efficiency and provide long-term durability.
