MYSTERY surrounds the deat of a pensioner from the South after he was found dead outside his home after suffering a serious head injury.
Officers from Hampshire police are trying to establish how a 78 year-old man from Gurnard on the Isle of Wight suffered the injury on Thursday, May 26.
The pensioner was found lying in the road outside his home on Rew Street cutting his hedges at about 10am.
Officers believe he may have fallen and that this could be an accident rather than a crime.
The 78 year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment, but sadly later died.
Officers have been told a couple were in the area and saw what happened. It is believed the pensioner spoke to them briefly.
They are described as white, aged in their sixties, and driving a tan coloured hatchback car.
Anyone with any information should call Hampshire police on 101 quoting reference number 44160196926.
