PARAMEDICS were called to a Hampshire playground yesterday as a girl fell from a tree.

The 12-year-old became stuck at Hanger Farm play park on Saturday afternoon and fell when trying to climb down.

Medics from Waterside Emergency Medical Services were on standby at Totton and Eling Arts Festival, which was taking place at Hanger Farm Arts Centre, and attended to the child while an ambulance was called.

She suffered minor injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

Director David Larbarestier said: “Our medics were on the scene very quickly and helped to stabilise her, protecting her neck and waiting for the ambulance.

“Two of our medics were there – an ambulance technician and an advance responder.

“I saw her at A&E last night around six or seven o clock and she’s getting on ok. We always try to follow up if there is a major incident.”

Arts festival organiser Allison Caddell said: “She was trying to get down and she fell out. We had medics on the scene so we were able to send them.

“It was in the park adjacent to the festival.

“I would say it was approximately sixty feet tall. I was on the phone to the fire brigade then she started to make her way down and fell.

“I called the medics and made sure she didn’t move.

“She may have been a visitor but at the time she was on the outside of the festival.

“She was about half way down the tree when she fell, and she fell through the trees.”

The girl was conscious when she hit the ground and was taken to hospital.

Ms Cadell added: “At no point was she unconscious. It was shocking to see a child at the top of a tree. And as a mother it was very difficult to see a child fall.”

Ms Cadell made an announcement over the festival tannoy for parents to come forward, by which time the girl’s mother was already at the scene.
