POLICE officers stopped 81 motorists in a series of roadside checks in Hampshire.

Officers conducted three roadside check operations in the area around Romsey this month in conjunction with HMRC and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

All of the vehicles stopped had their fuel tanks tested and two motorists received £500 on-the-spot fines for having red diesel in their tanks.

One vehicle was seized for having no valid vehicle tax and another for not having any insurance.

Two endorsable tickets were also issued for drivers whose tyres were under the legal limit and one ticket was issued for the driver not having a valid MOT.

Eight vehicles were dealt with by DVSA for having vehicle defects.
