A CREW of adventurers from Hampshire emotionally cruised home following an epic 320-mile cycling challenge.

A group of seven members from Calshot Lifeboat Station have harnessed pedal power on a gruelling journey along the South Coast for charity.

Now they were cheered and clapped by colleagues as they gratefully crossed the finish line at their home station after five days.

The crew has cycled from Land’s End to Calshot, calling in at 18 lifeboat stations on the way.

The team features four crew members, one wife, one son and one friend. Two crew members were also travelling with the team for support.

The ride, named “South Coast Life Cycle”, is jointly in aid of the RNLI and Waterside Cancer Support Centre in Hythe.

They have raised more than £4,000 for the centre and are still taking donations.

Phil Williams, RNLI crew member at Calshot, said: “We made it in one piece to Calshot lifeboat station. No punctures and very sore bums. Thank you to all that supported us throughout the trip and gave so generously in time and money.”

The crew have been promised the chance to soothe their aching muscles by receiving a free massage at the centre to reward them for their efforts.
