A RECORD-BREAKING sailor came to Hampshire to launch two new lifeboats.

Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (GAFIRS) welcomed Dee Caffari who launched the two RIB’s.

Dee made her name by sailing around the world against prevailing winds and currents.

Celebrations were held at the GAFIRS Stokes Bay headquarters - they included naming the boats and spraying them with champagne.

The rescue service’s 9m RIB was named Joan Dora Fuller and the smaller 4.8, RIB was named Ian Fuller.

Joan and Ian are the wife and son of Brian Fuller, a Hampshire businessman who left the money to pay for the two lifeboats in his will.

Mayors of Gosport and Fareham attended the ceremony as well as Roy West, a close friend of the Fuller family.

Dee said: “The Solent is my playground, so to have the reassurance of the work GAFIRS do and knowing that should the worst happen that I’m in good hands is very comforting.”
