A Hampshire motorist has been caught speeding seven times in four months during roadworks.

Michael Odysseos the Spur Road rebuild has been barred from getting behind the wheel for 56 days after being caught on the A338.

Odysseos, from eastleigh, appeared at Bournemouth Magistrates' Court where he admitted each of the seven charges against him.

Magistrates heard that Odysseos, 55, was caught travelling through the road works on the A338 at speeds of up to 63 miles per hour on dates in November and December 2015 and January and February of this year.

The defendant, of Longmead Lane in Eastleigh, was driving his Ford when he was caught speeding through the temporary 40mph limit installed while the road works were being completed.

On four occasions, Odysseos was caught travelling at 63mph.

The cameras, which measured average speed, also snared him travelling at 61mph, 55mph and 52mph.

Odysseos was fined £100 for each offence and disqualified from driving for 56 days.

Temporary speed cameras were in place throughout much of the nine-month rebuild, which came to an end on Saturday, May 28.

A 40mph speed limit was in place for safety reasons on a stretch of the carriageway between Blackwater and the Ashley Heath Interchange.

Around 59,000 vehicles travel on the A338 every day.

Between October 2015 and April 2016, a total of 4,213 drivers were caught speeding by the cameras.

In March alone, 1,704 notices of intended prosecution were issued.

The following months, just 103 of the notices were sent.

A Dorset County Council spokesperson said: “A temporary 40mph speed limit was introduced during the reconstruction of the A338 for the safety of drivers and workers.”
