AN investigation has been launched into the cause of a fire that destroyed a derelict bungalow in Southampton.
Crews from St Mary's, Hightown, Eastleigh and Redbridge were called to a “severe” fire in a property between Spring Crescent and Lawn Road in Portswood at 10.42pm on Saturday.
Around 30 firefighters tackled the blaze, which destroyed the roof of the building and caused significant damage to the rest of the property.
Fire crews set up a cordon while they worked and groups of neighbours gathered in the street.
A passer-by said: “As we approached the house we could see black smoke billowing out. The house was well alight – the fire was crackling and sparks were flying up.”
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “No-one was in the property at the time and no one was injured in the fire. The cause is now under investigation.”
