A COMMUNITY centre is celebrating its first year in its new home.

Lordshill Community Centre moved into bigger, more modern facilities in Cromarty Road last summer after 40 years in a temporary building in Andromeda Road.

Now the centre is inviting residents to join them at a party after their annual general meeting at 6.45pm tonight.

It is also boosting its team and calling for more volunteers to help the centre reach out into the community even more.

They are looking for a number of people who can spare a few hours a week to volunteer in roles including a new bookings officer, secretary, administrator and events planner.

The new team members will speak to organisations wishing to hire the venue out for workshops, clubs and parties, keep groups up to date with the general running of the centre and planning community events on behalf of the centre, based next door to Oaklands Community Pool.

Anyone interested in volunteering opportunities are invited to the agm tonight, which.

The meeting will be followed by a party to celebrate the first year in its new home.

Chairman Mike Holder, 71, who has run the centre since 2005, said: “We have got so much going on but it could be so much more if we could get some more help.

“It’s now a beautiful place. The facilities far exceeds and excels the old centre.

“The mayor of Southampton, Cathie McEwing and leader of the council Simon Letts often get involved. They’re massive supporters of the centre.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting at the community centre.
