The Royal Armouries latest exhibition to be unveiled at Fort Nelson is ‘Aspects of Fort Nelson’ featuring work by students taught by local artist Jessica Shaw.

The work draws on the many different aspects of Fort Nelson for inspiration; the collection of artillery, the historical backdrop, the beauty and drama of the setting, the flora and fauna, the changing effects of the seasons and the enduring landscapes.

Different painting techniques using a variety of mediums have been used, including watercolour, acrylic, mixed media and oils.

Each student has a unique and fresh way of looking at Fort Nelson and translating this response on to paper or canvas.

Nigel Hosier, Operations Manager said, “It’s a privilege to have local artists display their work, with so many pieces inspired by Fort Nelson. It’s fascinating to see the variety of media and styles as well as each artist’s individual interpretation”.

The exhibition runs until October 2016 as part of the Royal Armouries ‘Inspired by’ programme - an initiative which harnesses the talents of community groups and individuals and invites them to represent the national collection in exciting and innovative ways.

The Royal Armouries’ museum at Fort Nelson is home to one of the largest collections of artillery in the UK. Set within 19 acres, there is a lot to see and explore including the ramparts, parade, tunnels, galleries and Café 1871.
