AN ANNUAL fundraising day is being held in memory of a young father who was killed when he was hit by a car.
A football match and fundraising event at the Saints Pub in Millbrook has been organised by Steven Johnson’s mum, Ange Dandridge and his brother Sam.
Funds raised at the fourth Steven Johnson Memorial Day will go towards setting up a trust fund for Steven’s four-year-old son Lewi.
The close football match saw staff from The Saints pub take on Stevey J’s 11, made up of Steven’s friends and win through penalties.
Crowds are now flooding The Saints pub to enjoy the event in memory of the young man who was described as ‘the life and soul of the party’.
Hundreds of people are expected to turn up to the event that runs until midnight.
Entertainment includes face painting, a bouncy castle and live music from local musicians.
Steven’s family have seen over 300 people turn up to past events and have raised £1,500 over the years.
They hope that the funds raised by this event will go towards helping Lewi learn to drive or to buy his first house.
Steven’s mum said that she was pleased with the weather for the event.
She said: “The weather is brilliant and I hope more people come along to The Saints this afternoon.
“We have a band on soon and they will be playing Steven’s favourite song, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
“Hopefully when Lewi is older he will put the money raised towards something that will mean something to him and help his life.”
