COULD the next winner of Britain's Got Talent be from Hampshire?

That was the question on everyone's lips last night as auditions for the hit show took place.

Singers, magicians and musicians went to the Saints pub in Millbrook to take part in the first stages of auditions for the ITV show.

Members of the BGT crew watched acts perform before interviewing them.

The BGT action in Southapton continues today as open auditions are being held at WestQuay shopping centre.

Eugene McManus, the pub's licensee, said: "As we can see the music scene in Southampton is fantastic at the moment and there are a lot of great people on the circuit and people who want to be.

"It is always a privilege to be able to host the auditions and it is a testament to work we do here over the last three years through our own talent contest.

"It would be good to get someone from Southampton in the live auditions."

Magician Andrew Goddard-Crawley, 22, was one of the performers and said: "I have been doing magic for the last seven years, and I did the talent show at the pub last year and came second.

"Once I get going I am fine but it is the first bit that I get nervous about."

The judges will now compile a shortlist of performers who will go on to the next stage of Britain's Got Talent.
