DETECTIVES have released this image as they try to track down a robber who claimed he had a gun and took cash from a man in a city centre park.

Hampshire Constabulary have now released an e-fit image of the man they want to speak to following the robbery in Palmerston Park in Southampton.

The 50-year-old victim was sat on a park bench on the side of the park closest to Solent University at about 9.35pm on August 12.

He was then approached by a man carrying a Tesco carrier bag, who held it to his chest.

The victim could feel something heavy in it, and the other man told him he there was a gun in the bag and that he should hand over all of his money.

The 50-year-old then handed over his wallet, which contained £30 in cash, before the robber walked off in the direction of New Road.

The man police want to speak to is black, in his thirties, of muscular build and is tall.

He had short black hair and was wearing a red tT-shirt and light coloured shorts, and carrying a Tesco carrier bag.

Speaking after the initial police appeal was launched, PC Amanda Shearsby, said: “We’re appealing for anyone who was in or around the area of Palmerston Park or New Road at the time of the incident to get in touch.

“If you have any information that could assist our inquiry please let us know as soon as possible.”
