A SOUTHAMPTON woman underwent the chop when she lopped off her locks in aid of a leading health charity.

Julie Walker had her head shaved in the Saints Pub in Millbrook –- cheered on by a throng of 40 family, friends and punters.

The 45-year-old, from Lordswood, underwent the transformation in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, sacrificing her shoulder-length hair for a Grade One all over.

Ms Walker decided to take part in the Brave the Shave event in tribute to a family member who is battling cancer.

The printing office worker raised £925 –- with pub landlord Eugene McManus kindly donating a further £75 to round up the total to £1,000.

Friend Ian Meyer said: “Julie wanted to help other people who were in the same situation. Julie and I would like to thank the Saints management and Sstaff for supporting this great cause, and putting up with the hairy mess.”

Macmillan senior fundraising manager Alice Dewsnap-Smith said: “No one should have to face cancer alone and we are so grateful to Julie for helping us to support people living with cancer and their families and friends when they need us most. We have over 120 Macmillan professionals in Hampshire who provide practical, emotional and financial support to people affected by cancer, and thanks to fundraisers like Julie, our services will continue to grow and help us reach even more people.”
