FORMER Otterbourne sharp-shooter Tommy Wright sentenced AFC Totton to their fifth defeat in six league outings at the Testwood Stadium this afternoon.

The Salisbury marksman, on a season-long loan from Sutton United, rifled in a hat-trick as Steve Claridge’s Whites gave Totton a 4-0 dose of the Bank Holiday blues watched by a 662 crowd.

The Stags had their moments, none more so than Nathaniel Sherborne who had four one-on-one opportunities, but couldn’t find a way past Portsmouth loan 'keeper Alex Bass.

Wright, in contrast, was clinical – albeit helped by some sloppy defending which is fast becoming Totton's trademark in the Southern One South & West.

“We’re architects of our downfall,” sighed Stags boss Steve Hollick. “Credit to Salisbury, they moved the ball better than we did and took their chances.

“We’re going to struggle if we don’t look after the ball properly. We’re making individual mistakes at the wrong times.

“The lads are pretty low and it’s up to me to lift them."

Kieran Parselle’s exquisite through ball set up Wright to net from an acute angle with five minutes gone, defender Adam Pearson succeeding only in helping it over the line.

Ex-Saint Pedro 'Pele' Monteiro hit the outside of the post with one header and had another cleared off the line for Totton but, on 39 minutes, defensive mayhem ended with Curtis Angell taking the legs from under Wright who made it 2-0 from the spot.

Wright struck again on 55 minutes, planting another precision finish into the far corner for his eighth goal of the season and doubtless catching the eye of watching Pompey boss Paul Cook.

Even when the hat-trick hero made way for Justin Bennett, there was still no respite for the men in Totton blue.

Bennett added Salisbury's fourth on 87 minutes, heading in Brandon Mundy’s cross for his seventh of the campaign.
