Like most young girls Beatrice Landolfi loves her long flowing hair.

But the nine-year-old didn’t hesitate to sacrifice her treasured locks to help others.

The schoolgirl cut her much-loved hair to support a cancer charity and provide hair for patients with the condition.

Young Beatrice had her eight inch plaits cut to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The cause is very close to the youngster’s heart as her mother Suzanne Landolfi, 48, from Maybush who works for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency suffered from breast cancer in 2014.

Springhill Catholic Primary pupil Beatrice is no stranger to raising funds as she also took part in the Race for Life with her mum just five weeks after her radiotherapy treatment had finished.

The hair will go to the Little Princess Trust which provides wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

The cut took place at Claire’s Cutting Rooms in Lordshill District Centre and there was also a fun day at the salon to raise funds for the Daisy Garland Trust.

Mum-of-three Mrs Landolfi said:”My daughter Beatrice was only 7, and was incredibly brave and strong. She helped me when I had to clipper all my hair off during the chemotherapy. She looked after me when I felt sick and tired. Throughout all of this she worked hard at school and received loads of awards for her hard work and also her good behaviour. She is a real role model.

“Beatrice is such a wonderful girl and took part in the Race for Life with me, just 5 weeks after my radiotherapy finished and together we raised over £2100. She doesn’t want any other children to have to go through what she has been through.”

“I think it is completely incredible of her to do that, not only for me but when we were talking about it she was there when I had my hair off because of chemotherapy and she knows what I went through.

“I think she was a little bit shocked afterwards but she feels she has done the right thing.”

The cut was done by Claire Browne who also helped Mrs Landolfi when she had cancer by styling her wig when she underwent chemotherapy and she also trimmed her hair when it started to grow back.
