THEY are the golden sailors who helped add to Team GB’s stunning medal haul at the Rio Olympics.

Now the British Sailing team will be back on home turf in Hampshire as they will help open the Southampton Boat Show later this month.

The show which kicks off on September 16 will welcome gold medalist Giles Scott who won the Men’s Finn in style along with the the impressive partnership of Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark who ruled the waves in the 470 women’s pair and took gold in stunning fashion.

Nick Dempsey who won a historic windsurfing silver will also be hoping to make waves at the event.

The medallists helped bring Team GB’s overall medal total to a record-breaking 67, which included 27 golds, 23 silver and 17 bronze – with three of the medals coming in sailing.

Joining them will be fellow sailors including Nick Thompson who is a double laser world champion and joining him will be reigning Laser Radial World Champion Alison Young.

Other sailors who fell just short of medals but will be at the show include Luke Patience and Chris Grube who competed in the 470 Dinghy and finished a fifth place.

Fellow duo Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign who took part in the Men’s 49er skiff and Charlotte Dobson, Sophie Ainsworth who took part in the women’s 49er FX skiff will also be there.

Completing the numbers will be Ben Saxton and Nicola Groves who finished ninth in the Mixed Nacra 17 multihull and Bryony Shaw who was a bronze medalist in 2008 but finished ninth in the Women’s RS:X windsurfer in Rio.

The boat show will include several well-known names including stunning brunette Michelle Keegan who is known for her roles in Coronation Street and Our Girl.

Incorporating one of Europe’s largest purpose-built marinas, this year’s show which runs from September 16 to 25 will offer visitors an exciting array of new attractions.

There will be hundreds of boats on display, including 330 on the stunning marina itself and more than 2km of pontoons.
