FRANNY is heading home - and you can cheer him on his way.

Saints legend Benali is hoping to draw huge crowds as he runs through Southampton on the final leg of his journey tomorrow.

He will leave Brighton and Hove Albion at 7am and Saints chairman Ralph Krueger is due to run the first 10 miles with Franny to Worthing.

Franny is due to arrive by bike at the Ageas Rose Bowl at around 2.30pm – the one cricket ground on his route – where he will receive some treatment before the final push for home on foot.

Franny is expected to reach the St Mary’s stadium around 3.40pm and will complete the last yards of his journey by running a lap of the pitch at half time of the match against Burnley, which kicks off at 4pm.

The finishing tape will be held by young cancer sufferers Joe Scully, 14, and Josh Carrington, 10, whose stories have helped inspire Franny as he has battled through the pain barrier on his 1,400 mile trek.

Franny added: “The welcome home I received in 2014 was incredible. Saints fans were unbelievably generous and I hope they remain as passionate as I am about supporting Cancer Research UK’s pioneering work in immunotherapy, helping to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”

Jenny Makin, Cancer Research UK spokesperson for Hampshire and Dorset, urged the people of Southampton to come out and cheer Franny on his way.

“We really hope that Southampton fans give Franny the homecoming he deserves and dig deep to show their support,” said Jenny.

“We have been blown away by Franny’s resilience and determination to raise much-needed funds for Cancer Research UK, despite the visible toll it is taking on his body with every single mile he covers.

“Immunotherapy drugs are showing great promise for a lot of different types of cancer, but more research is needed to figure out which cancers these drugs can be used to treat, and which patients are most likely to benefit from them.

“The money that Franny’s raising for Cancer Research UK’s work into immunotherapy will help us answer these questions sooner and, ultimately, help more people survive the disease.”

A spokesman for Southampton FC said: "As a club, we are all phenomenally proud and inspired by the incredible determination and willpower that Franny has shown.

"It is a truly phenomenal effort and the funds raised will make a huge difference to such an important charity in Cancer Research.

"We urge as many people as possible to get behind Franny in the final stages of his challenge and donate what they can to help the fight against cancer."
