A CARING school boy was given a surprise thank you for looking after his blind mum – by a bunch of Star Wars Stormtroopers.

Ten-year-old Nathan Boyce has cared for mum Sarah since a brain tumour crushed her optic nerve, leaving her blind 26 years ago.

Yesterday, a Hampshire charity organised a surprise thank you for Star Wars fan Nathan in front of classmates at his primary school in Shirley.

The Honeypot children’s charity organised Britain’s Got Talent dance group Boogie Storm to pay Nathan a special visit.

Helping out at home since the age of six, Nathan performs all sorts of tasks around the house for his mum.

Nathan said: “I had a great time this morning but it was a big shock! I really like looking after mum, it’s quite a lot of fun.”

After the school surprise, mum Sarah said: “It’s been amazing and so lovely for Nathan to get something back for all he does for me at home.

"He reads my post, helps with my shopping and the cooking. Without his help I’d have to get full time carers.

“I lost my sight when waking up one morning, they said a brain tumour had caused it. I should have had some dizziness or other symptoms before but there was just nothing.”

Honeypot, based in New Forest got in touch with ITV back in August after meeting Sarah and Nathan at their home in May.

Director of communications Peter Suchet said: “I thought it was ideal for This Morning and they got back to me very quickly to say they were definitely interested in organising today.”

Having been going for 20 years, the charity provide ongoing outreach and support to children just like Nathan.

Nathan’s father David, from Kent, also voiced his admiration for his son. David said: “I’m really, really proud of him. I travelled up last night to have dinner with him and he thought I was going home this morning so he didn’t expect any of this, it’s been absolutely fantastic.”
