A MUSICIAN who crafts his instruments from giant blocks of ice will be taking to the stage tonight for, what is promised to be, a truly chilling experience.
Terje Isungset, who is well-known across Europe for his skills as an accomplished and innovative percussionist, will be performing at the Turner Sims, at the University of Southampton from 8pm.
Since the 1980’s Terje has been combining the natural elements in his music through the use of wood, stones, metal and machine sounds, using instruments made from natural elements such as arctic birch, granite, slate and sheep bells.
Audiences have been promised a memorable evening of jazz and Scandinavian music far beyond traditional boundaries.
The Norwegian composer will open with a tribute to nature, performing a set using his birch and granite percussion before being joined on stage by Norwegian vocalist Maria Skranes for another set which will see him use his ethereal ice instruments, including the ice horns, an iceofon and ice percussion.
The auditorium will be kept at a cool temperature so audiences are reminded to wear warm clothing.
Tickets are between £18 and £20. Call the box office on 023 8059 5151 for more.
