A RECORD breaking number of people came and a bumper amount of cash was raised for good causes across the county.

Organisers of the Mayflower Park firework display, backed by the Daily Echo estimate that 10,000 people packed into the park to see the jawdropping display.

Southampton Round Table, whose volunteers stage the event, said it was their most successful year to date as more people than ever before turned out for the event.

This year the fireworks were organised by double world firework champions Pyrotex with the show beginning at 7.45pm and crowds enjoying the fun fair which started at 3pm, for a fun-packed day.

Children tested their luck to win prizes, such as stuffed animals, in a variety of games – including Hook-ADuck, Paying tribute to the army of more than 100 volunteers who made the event happen, Chris Tahmasaby said: “It was phenomenal, really amazing.

Without the hard work of the 15 Round Table volunteers who give up so much of their time, and the network of businesses and organisations that help us out, this simply wouldn’t happen. this is a great example of the community coming together to do something that people enjoy and that raises thousands and thousands of pounds for charity.”

Chris paid tribute particularly to Williams Shipping for the loan of the barge off which the fireworks display was set, Icaal for their marketing of the event and the outlet which sold tickets.

Chris added: “We also need to say a big thank you to the Scouts who came on the site to clear it all up for us as I am sure it was quite a mess by the time we had finished.”

Crowds were also entertained by local artists Lewis Smith and Toby Janes who took to the stage to perform in front of the record breaking crowds. All the money raised form the event will go towards good causes.
