A TEENAGER died in her sleep at a Hampshire music festival after taking a lethal cocktail of drugs over a four-day period, an inquest heard.

Olivia Christopher, from Chesham in Buckinghamshire was found unresponsive in a tent by her boyfriend Daniel Holmes at BoomTown festival near Winchester on August 15.

Pathologist Dr Balvinder Singh Shoker said there was toxic levels of MDMA in the 18-year-old’s body and also a significant level of sleeping pill etizolam.

During the festival Livvy, as Olivia was known to her friends, had also taken ketamine along with cocaine, ecstasy and LSD - however these were drugs were found to be at ‘recreational’ level.

The inquest heard how Olivia arrived with her boyfriend Daniel Holmes and they joined other friends who had arrived with drugs, and also paid for drugs on site.

Mr Holmes told the inquest at Winchester Coroner’s Court, that they had been together for two and a half months.

He described Olivia as healthy but said she was taking variety drugs throughout the festival and he was surprised at how much she took.

“It was small quantities, she was taking a lot of thing things in small doses throughout the days.

"She also drank alcohol too, which was mostly wine,” said Mr Holmes.

“To be honest I did not think they (the drugs) had that much effect - she seemed to be in full control and knew what she was doing.”

He told the hearing that on the night Olivia died he had woken up but was unaware of Olivia’s condition and had gone back to sleep.

When he awoke at 11am he realised Olivia was not moving.

Mr Holmes and friends pulled her out of the tent and flagged down BoomTown staff to help.

Also giving evidence was Mr Holmes friend Jack McMaster, who described the group as coming into the festival with a range of drugs which they took throughout.

Mr McMaster said “Everyone took drugs every day. I saw Livvy take ketamine every day four or five times a day, each time she sniffed it from a key.”

“She also took several types of pills, she took whole pills I would say she was banging more than us, meaning she was taking more pills.”

He described her as being in a “bad state” on the first night of BoomTown, but said she did not get like that again and described her condition on the Sunday night as “well in control”.

Mr McMaster told how he realised that Olivia was dead: “When I saw her face I started to panic, we were shaking her and pouring water on her head, there was dry blood on her nose.

“I was checking her pulse but could not feel anything.

"I am trained to do CPR but I admit I started panicking a bit, her eyes were closed but when we pulled up her eyelids her pupils were big.”

Senior coroner Grahame Short recorded a verdict of a drug-related death.

Mr Short said: “The evidence is very clear that Livvy took a series of different drugs while she was at the site.

“These included cocaine, ketamine, LSD and MDMA.

“It was found that she had deadly levels of MDMA and etizolam in her body, she was not prescribed these drugs.

“The other drugs, although they were not fatal, played a part in her death.

“Given the history, I get the impression Olivia could take large quantities of drugs without being aware of the consequences.

"She felt some form of invincibility.”

The death of Ms Christopher was the fourth in the festival’s seven year history.

In 2011, Deborah Jeffery, 45, from Winchester, suffered a fatal heart attack after taking ecstasy; in 2013, Oxfam steward Ellie Rowe, from Glastonbury, Somerset, died after taking ketamine; and in 2014, Lisa Williamson, 31, from Hereford, was found hanged after using drugs.

The festival also hit headlines after 80 cars were destroyed in a fire.
