PC Alexander Tack said of the Hythe incident: “We are keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened that afternoon, including the events leading up to the collision.

“Officers are particularly interested in speaking to a woman driving a dark coloured estate car, travelling from the Applemore roundabout in the direction of Ipley Cross, who stopped at the scene to assist. If you saw anything, please call police immediately.”

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, and has been bailed until March 1, 2017.
