EMERGENCY services rushed to a Hampshire beauty spot to rescue a man who was trapped inside his car which was submerged in water.

The elderly man’s vehicle was found submerged in water by Calshot Spit.

Emergency services including Hampshire Fire and Rescue, Hampshire Police, Hamble lifeboat, Lymington coastguard rescue team and Southampton coastguard rescue team rushed to the scene.

According to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency they helped rescue the man from his vehicle, it is believed he had been trapped inside for more than half an hour.

However, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service say the man had "self rescued" before emergency services arrived.

A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “A call came in to us at 10:55am by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, and we assisted Hampshire Fire and Rescue and police.

“It was a man that drove his car into the water at Calshot Spit by the beachhuts.

She said that the man was rescued by 11.30am, and he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The incident happened yesterday and Hampshire Fire and Rescue say the man had “self rescued” himself before fire crews from Hardley and Hythe arrived. 

The Daily Echo contacted Hamble Lifeboat, who said they are unable to comment on the incident currently.

It is not known how seriously injured the man is or his current condition.
