TICKETS have just gone on sale for an all-star benefit gig for Delays frontman Greg Gilbert.

Cavalry, which will take place at The 1865 in Southampton on Friday February 17, will feature acoustic sets from Southampton’s own in-demand guitar favourites Band of Skulls and indie rockers Mystery Jets.

And Delays themselves will make a rare appearance on stage with Primal Scream bassist Simone Marie representing close friend Greg who is currently undergoing chemotherapy alongside the remainder of the band Aaron, Colin and Rowly.

Sam Duckworth, The Diamond Age and Thomas Tantrum, who will be reforming for one night only, make up the remainder of the current line-up for Cavalry, with more special guests to be announced soon.

Announcing the gig, Greg's brother Aaron, the band's keyboard player and sometime vocalist, said: “Come and lose yourselves and your voices with us, raise your hands like antennas to the sky and dance dizzy until your problems fall off!”

The event is expected to be a sell out as musicians and fans from Southampton and further afield join forces to raise money for potentially life-saving cancer treatment for popular 40-year-old father of two Greg, also an artist with a mural on the wall of the new Westquay development.

Greg and his partner Stacey Heale have been overwhelmed with support since she launched a campaign to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for private treatment not available on the NHS.

Their Go Fund Me page total stands at nearly £135,000 and family, friends, fans and strangers have been busy arranging quizzes, auctions and marathon attempts.

Rival pubs and clubs across the city are doing their bit with the first benefit gig at The Joiners raising a whopping £2,000.

An event featuring PDS Band, Goldrush, Sunflower, The Stevie John Band and The Vinyl Beat will be held at The Concorde Club on Tuesday.

Delays chart single Valentine will be the star of a further gig at The Brook on February 14. Sean McGowan, The Novatones, Bird Pen, Dead Rabbit will appear alongside a DJ set by Band of Skulls.

Tickets are £30. See www.the1865.com/events/cavalry
