Police have released a CCTV image of two people they would like to speak to following an attempted burglary at a block of flats in Southampton.

Officers wish to speak to the pair after a man prised open a window at the rear of the flats on St Mary Street between 2.40am and 3.10am on Friday, January 13.

The man tried to climb in, but left the scene when he was disturbed.

He was reported to have fled the area with a woman who had been stood nearby.

The man has been described as white, tall, slim to medium build, with receding hair and some sort of facial hair, possibly a thin beard. He was described as wearing a tracksuit.

The woman he left the area with has been described as wearing a tracksuit with the hood up.

Police are also keen to trace a taxi driver who drove through the area at this time, as the driver may have witnessed something, and would like to speak to anyone who saw two people acting suspiciously in the area at this time.

PC Amanda Shearsby said: “Did you see anything strange in St Mary Street at this time, or a man and woman acting in an unusual way in the early hours of the morning?”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Shearsby on 101, quoting 44170016680, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
