A HAMPSHIRE road is closed after a crash between a car and a dustbin lorry this morning.
The incident happened on the Hythe bypass near the Beaulieu Road roundabout following the collision, which happened at about 8am.
Emergency crews battled to free the driver from the wreckage.
A front seat passenger in the silver BMW managed to escape after it collided with the New Forest District Council bin lorry.
The driver was cut from the vehicle and both were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Colin Read, Executive Head of Operations, "One of our refuse vehicles was involved in a road collision this morning.
"The incident involved our vehicle and a car travelling in the opposite direction.
"Both the NFDC employees in the refuse vehicle are ok although shaken and are being attended to by the ambulance service.
"We are assisting the police and fire service with their assessment of the incident."
Three fire engines from Redbridge, Hythe and Hardley attended the scene.
The ambulance service were also called out.
The road was closed between the Heath Roundabout and the Hardley Roundabout but the northbound carriageway has now opened.
