STUDENTS at a Hampshire sixth form are celebrating after gaining places at the country’s top universities.

15 students from the Barton Peveril Sixth Form College in Eastleigh, have received offers from Oxford and Cambridge.

The universities have sent offers for a variety of subjects including medicine, mathematics, engineering and natural sciences.

Shoonagh Hubble, co-ordinator of the Oxbridge Support Service, said: “Our aspiring Oxbridge students have access to a wide range of extension classes, events, visits, mentors and mock interviews throughout the entire application process.

We are absolutely delighted to have 15 of our students offered the chance to be part of the history of Oxford and Cambridge and we wish them every success with their forthcoming examinations.”

The students who received offers this year came to Barton Peveril College from different schools across the south, including Thornden, Toynbee, Upper Shirley High, Wildern and The Sholing Technology College in Southampton.

Eleven of the 15 students who received the offer celebrated their achievements with a lunch at the Barton Peveril.

Maisie Bedford, 17, from Fareham, has been offered a place at the Cambridge to study Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic.

She said: “My parents didn’t go to college or university, so I was determined to make them proud. I am incredibly happy and excited with my offer as the application process was extremely challenging.”
