HERE she is - the winner of the Daily Echo Festive Pets competition.

Maisie, a terrier cross, charmed the judges with her festive look to win the competition that over the years has seen lots of different pets involved, including cats, hamsters and rabbits.

The two-and-a-half-year-old was rescued from the Blue Cross rehoming centre by owners Peter and Mary Hyde, from Hamble, in September.

Peter said the couple couldn’t resist her charm when they first saw her at the centre in Hedge End. Peter, 59, who is a retired teacher, said: “When we saw her we just fell in love with her because of the nature and of how friendly she was.

“The staff at the Blue Cross have been amazing in supporting us and we have been very lucky to find her. ”

Peter takes Maisie out for a walk at the Hamble Common twice a day.

Maisie is a cross with other breeds and Peter said that he will try to find out what they are.

Retired teacher Peter added: “I think that the Daily Echo Festive Pets competition is absolutely wonderful. It’s lovely that a local paper runs such a competition. It’s fun and it’s a celebration of love for animals and their relationship with their owners.”

The winner will receive a goodie bag.
