SOUTH West Trains users are facing delays after a person was hit and killed by a train.

The incident happened near Woking station earlier this morning and emergency services are on the scene.

All lines in the area were blocked but some have reopened and there will be knock-on delays until at least 5pm.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Just before 9.20am today, British Transport Police officers were called to Woking station following reports a person was struck by a train. 

"Officers are on scene alongside paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service however a person has sadly been pronounced dead.

"Work is underway to identify the person and inform their family. 

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A statement says: "The location of the incident causes a knock on effect as many lines pass through the area.

"This means trains may have to be cancelled, altered or revised at short notice.

"Some services may also be diverted via an alternative route or terminated and started back from different locations. 

"There is currently no estimated time of when the lines will be open as the British Transport Police will have to conduct investigations surrounding the incident. "
