An investigation has been launched after a police officer was threatened at knifepoint in Hampshire.

Police say that the officer was threatened after a stop check in Winchester yesterday.

Hampshire Constabulary says that the incident happened in Middlebrook Street at around 4.45pm.

A 50-year-old man from Winchester was arrested and remains in police custody, according to a spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary.

A tweet from Hampshire Response Cops, stated: "Male arrested #winchester after stop check, and male pulled a knife on the Officer and threatened him. No injuries and everyone safe 22740."
