A Hampshire singer wowed the judges on BBC taletn show Let It Shine last night.

Ryan Butterworth had Take That's Gary Barlow, performer Dannii Minogue, Glee star Amber Riley and Spandau Ballet and Eastenders star Martin Kemp nodding along to his auditon.

The 21-year-old performed a rendition of the U2 classic I Just Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.

He was given 16 stars by the judges - enough to get him through to the next round.

After his performance judge Amber said: "The tone of your voice is really beautiful. I think you have a great stage presence."

The talent search aims to find five talents for a new stage show based on the music of Take That.

Ryan, who graduated in Media last summer from Bournemouth University, also released his first single Sunset two weeks ago.

The song is taken from his debut EP After Rain Look for Rainbows.

Adrian Butterworth, 49, Ryan’s father and student advisor at the Brockenhurst College, said: “ I am very proud of him. Let it shine is a great platform for him to move his career forward.

"We are all excited to watch him at the competitions. He has all our support and has lots of fans already.”

Ryan, a former Brockenhurst College student, played at the Talking Heads in Southampton last month with guitarist Joe Smith.

He comes to the city to watch the Saints playing at the St Mary’s Stadium whenever he can, as he has been supporting them since he was a child.

Since he took the decision to become a singer three years ago, Ryan has taught himself and last year started playing with three more boys in the Ryan Butterworth Band.

“It’s his natural talent and his self-teaching that brought him where he is now.," he dad added.

"He has always loved music and he plays guitar and I really wish his music will take off in the future."

A Brockenhurst College spokesperson said: “ We are incredibly proud of all our students and of Ryan. We wish him all the best.”

Ryan now hopes to make it through to the final on February 25.
