A NEW nightclub could be blasting into Southampton if there is enough support from the public.

World-renowned club Sankey’s, which has venues in Ibiza, London, Tokyo and Essex, wants to bring a multi-million-pound club to Southampton.

The club's bosses have revealed new expansion and relaunch plans for multiple sites across the UK, based on the #DoYouWannaSankeys campaign.

The campaign, centred on 20 UK towns and cities is giving the public the chance to bring a Sankey’s club to their area.

A spokesperson for the nightclub chain said: “We have had an amazing response for plans for us to come to Southampton, who love music as much as we do and hope to be working with them for everyone benefit.

“Alongside the Night Time Industries Association, our aim is to connect all of the UK and Ireland's true ravers into one powerful family and bring back the golden days of underground dance music in through our new group of clubs.

"Our hope is that this will inspire new parties, producers, labels and clubs and have an effect which will butterfly for years to come.”

The brand first opened its doors in Manchester as Sankey’s Soap in June 1994. The club opened and closed a number of times before closing its doors for good in January of this year after the building was sold for flats.

Alan Miller, chairman of the Night Time Industries association who is partnering with the reputed chain said hopes the plans would be a "big boost" for nightlife for cities across the UK including Southampton.

He said: “We are proud to be working with the team for Sankey’s across Britain. Just one week after the world found out the shocking news that Sankey’s was closing in Manchester after over 20 years.

"Now over 20 cities in the UK are set to have a new club. Upbeat, fun and engaging is what saving nightlife is all about.’’

Company bosses are hoping to reach a full decision on Southampton plans at the end of February.
