A DISABILITY charity has been given a financial boost after a new Tesco Express store opened in Southampton.

The Rose Road Association, which works with children and adults with complex and multiple disabilities and health needs, received a £500 donation from the store, which recently opened in Romsey Road.

A cheque was presented to the charity’s Kimberley Barton-Smith, who was invited to cut the ribbon as guest of honour.

She said: “I would like to thank Tesco for this generous donation.

“The money will support our outreach services within the community.

“Many of our young people need 24-hour-care and as a parent it can be quite difficult to juggle their needs along with life’s everyday demands.

“The outreach service operates seven-days-a-week throughout Hampshire and provides one-to-one quality time with young people at home or in the community.”

Graham Thomas, the new store’s manager, said: “We have really enjoyed our store launch celebrations and I would like to thank Kim for joining us.

“We are delighted to support the Rose Road Association with our £500 donation, as they are a great charity which carries out such invaluable work in the Southampton community.”

The store, which will be open Monday to Sunday from 7am until 11pm, offers Costa Coffee Express, a free cash machine, and self-service tills.

Parking is also available to customers in front of the store.
