SOUTHAMPTON’S Harry Potter-inspired pub crawl has been put on hold, organisers have announced.

Greg Wilson, a DJ from Aberdeen, who is behind the event, has expressed regret and apologised to customers for the inconvenience.

He said: “We have had to cancel the event due to concerns about the health and safety of revellers out on the crawl.

“While it’s a great idea we have to take into account the health and wellbeing of people.’ “We are currently rethinking our plans for the Southampton event and hope to have something in place in due course which could possibility be a Harry Potter themed club night.”

The event was inspired by Mr Wilson’s love of Harry Potter and started in the summer of 2016. Since then it has spread from Aberdeen to cities including Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Cardiff and Leeds .

The pub crawl would have given revellers a taste of Hogwarts and be transformed into supernatural hangouts for the event on February 24.

Organsiers are now pulling out all of the stops to put on an alternative.

The pub crawl is part of a collection of Harry Potter-themed events across the country organised for revellers by Wasted Promotions, who are developing a collection of fancy dress themed events.

This isn’t the first time the wizarding world has visited Southampton either.

Last year the city hosted two qualifier matches of the Southern Cup Quidditch championships – the game made famous in JK Rowling’s huge;y successful novels – involving a team from the university.

For the 350 customers that have already bought tickets to the “wander-ful night”, they will have their tickets refunded along with the booking fee.

A replacement date is currently being set by organisers, who hope to announce it in due course.
