A UK mayor has plans for new approach to tackling dog poo on the streets, according to a local newspaper report.

Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson announced plans at a cabinet meeting to offer a year’s free council tax to residents who give evidence leading to a criminal conviction for not picking up after pets.

According to the report, Mr Anderson said the move ‘would be cost neutral’ because of the money made through fines.

This comes after both Southampton City Council and Hampshire County Council announced moves to raise council tax by 4.99% - the maximum amount possible without having to call a referendum.
