RE PONY casualties in the new forest. As a driver, we are not to blame.
Myself and daughter were approaching Brook and, being on dipped beam because of an oncoming car, we only just saw the outline of two horses’ legs, possibly the two killed, highlighted due to the oncoming vehicle.
Both horses were dark in collar, with no fluorescent markings to show. They were vulnerable, standing head to tail of each other licking salt from the road.
I flashed each oncoming car for quite a way up the road, that’s all I could do to help save them.
If I were an owner, I would get collars and paint fluorescent markings on all sides of animals.
Otherwise I would remove from the Forest roads.
