HOLDERS Team Solent scraped through to the semi-finals of the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup by the skin of their teeth against Tadley Calleva last night.

The Students had goalkeeper Bradley Banda to thank as they booked a semi-final trip to Sholing with a 4-1 penalty shootout win against the Sydenhams One underdogs.

Solent –  seventh in the Sydenhams Premier - took the lead through Jim Orvis after just five minutes at Test Park.

But Tadley hit back with ten minutes remaining when James Tennant headed home Sam Hamilton’s corner.

But for Banda’s heroics, a penalty shootout would not have been necessary. Tadley almost won it at the end of normal time when Brett Denham battled through one-on-one, but the Gibraltar under-19 international denied him with a crucial stop.

Banda kept up the good work in the shootout, denying Shaun Dallimore and Hamilton as the Students kept their nerve to join Sholing, Baffins Milton Rovers and Bashley/Shaftesbury in the last four.

Sydenhams Wessex League Cup semi-finals: Baffins Milton Rovers v Bashley or Shaftebury (February 28), Sholing v Team Solent.
