A MAN was punched several times in an attempted robbery in Hampshire.

Police have launched an investigation after the 34-year-old victim was attacked in Gore Road, New Milton.

The incident happened between 8pm and 8.40pm when the man was punched by another man, who went through his pockets but did not take any items.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated in hospital after the incident, which happened outside the New Life Christian Centre near the corner of Vincent Road.

The attacker is described as being about five feet nine inches tall, of heavy build, with short dark hair and a wipsy, untidy beard.

He was wearing a khaki sweatshirt, is believed to be in his 20s, had a local accent, and was said to be smelling of alcohol.

The suspect was with another man who was not involved in the robbery but was described as having fair hair.
