The public are being urged to have their say on multi-million plans for transform a Hampshire town centre.

Fareham Borough Council proposals for a new town centre redevelopment are one step ahead as leaders launched a public consultation.

Councillor Keith Evans, Executive Member for Planning and Development at Fareham Borough Council said: “Fareham Town Centre is the community, retail and cultural heart of the borough and we want to make sure it meets everyone’s needs for years to come.

“We think the ideas in our draft vision will improve the experience of living in, working in and visiting Fareham, but we want to know what you think. I’d encourage anyone who uses the town centre to have their say and take part in our consultation”.

The draft vision which was approved two weeks ago which will see Fareham town centre redeveloped with a new multi-story car park, restaurant complex and the construction of hundreds of homes focusing on five key areas which include West Street, Market Quay, Fareham railway station, Civic area and Lysses car park will be the focus of the plans.

Buildings in West Street are set to become taller under the plans proposed along with a council led campaign to encourage community groups and businesses located in the town’s central street to fill empty units in the pedestrian area or in Fareham Shopping Centre.

Market Quay will be home to a new restaurant area dubbed ‘the food and drink haven’ of Fareham.

New facilities including shop, businesses and community facilities built around the Fareham railway station site while the civic area will see the demolition of Osborn Road multi-storey car park and in its place.

The council also plans to build a new cultural and arts facility along with a 600 capacity car park and 150 homes.

Finally, Lyess near Quay Street will see a collection of new resident developments up to three storeys high with private parking for residents.

Borough MP Suella Fernandes said: “Fareham has so much to offer, with great businesses and a thriving local economy. The draft plans to regenerate Fareham town centre will add to the town’s vibrancy and ensure its fit for future demands to support our businesses, the area and community to grow, by making it an even more attractive place to live, work and visit.

“I urge local people to take part in the consultation process and to get their voices heard."

The public can view the council’s vision and express one of their views at a consultation event on Saturday 4 and Monday 13 March between 9am – 3pm Market area of West Street and on Tuesday 7 March between 2pm-7:30pm at Ferneham Hall with the overall consultation running from Monday, February 20 to Sunday, March 26.
