AN incredible £25,000 was raised at a star-studded fundraiser in aid of Delays frontman Greg Gilbert.

An overwhelmed Greg watched sections of the emotional night on a live stream from Southampton's 1865 club as he convalesced at his Bitterne home.

Brother Aaron, who took to the stage with other band members Colin and Rowly to perform Delays hits alongside Simone Marie of Primal Scream fame, described it as a night he'll never forget.

He told fans: "I wanted to thank you all from the core of my atoms for your voices and your thunderous hand claps. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.

"You held us all together with your beautiful noise when we could have fallen apart."

Greg's fiancee Stacey Heale, who was in the crowd, added: "It was one of the strangest but most beautiful nights of my life. I've never felt a collective amount of love like it. It was a celebration of friendship that blew my mind."

Cavalry's incredible line up included a whole host of bands and artists related to Delays in one way or another.

The night also featured acoustic sets from Band of Skulls and Mystery Jets, as well as Sam Duckworth, Thomas Tantrum and The Diamond Age who have all toured, recorded or met Delays on the festival circuit.

Top acts including Coldplay and Craig David have contributed signed items for an ongoing online auction.

Vocalist and guitarist Greg, also a well-known Southampton artist, and his family are fundraising for potentially life-saving cancer treatment not available on the NHS.
