They’re the performers of the future who wowed Southampton with their musical talent.
52 singers, orchestral musicians and drummers were invited to a very special afternoon tea after an outstanding show at top south coast theatre the Mayflower.
Mayor of Southampton councillor Cathie McEwing was so impressed with the Southampton Celebration Proms that she invited the performers to her parlour to say ‘well done.’
After a traditional tea of sandwiches, cakes and sausage rolls the youngsters had their pictures taken with the mayor - and she even let them try on her chains.
Founder of Showcase Performance Company Alex Pope, who works with thousands of young musicians across the city, said: “She wanted to recognise them for their music and for being positive role models in the city.”
The youngsters also took the opportunity to launch their May 6 event, when they will be raising money for the three mayor’s charities with Drum Southampton, a drumming show and day of workshops in Guildhall Square.
