ENTRIES for a town’s famous annual road race are sold out weeks ahead of its closing date.

Thousands of runners have already booked their place at this year’s Eastleigh 10k.

The largest 10k in the south of England will see more than 2,750 runners lacing-up their running shoes on March 19.

The annual event is renowned as a fast, flat course ideal for both experienced runners and beginners and an opportunity to record personal and seasons best times.

The event features also a 2k children’s fun run for those aged between 4 and 12-year-old and it is already sold out too.

Race organiser Steve Collins, of Running Mania, said: “It's simply amazing support from runners for this great running event. Running has had a huge increase in popularity with the advent of Parkruns and more local running clubs.”

The race supported by Hendy Group Eastleigh will see all 10k runners receive commemorative t-shirts and medals.

New prize categories will also recognise the effort of those aged over 70 and those aged between 15 and 16.

Mr Collins said: “Hendy's support has been fantastic and I know all the runners really appreciated their support for the event and I am sure they'll look forward to earning their medal.”

This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the renowned race and runners from across the country will poor to Eastleigh to compete.

A team from Guernsey is expected along with other runners from London, the South West and the Midlands.

Like in previous years runners will raise vital cash for charities.

This year, money will support Wessex Heartbeat, The Mayor of Eastleigh’s Appeal and Wave 105 Cash for Kids appeal.

In the past years, the race has seen over 2,000 runners take to the town’s streets, including MPs such as Mike Thornton and his successor current Eastleigh MP Mims Davies, who will be running the Eastleigh 10k again next March.

The race will start at 9am and the fun run will begin at 11am and will be held around Fleming Park.
