STEVE Benson is “horrified” that the Concorde Club is hosting an evening with “right-wing bigot” Nigel Farage, and vows never to attend the venue again (Letters, February 22).
It seems reasonable to speculate that his absence will not be to the Concorde’s detriment.
Mr Benson associates the club with multicultural forms of music, like jazz, and he’s doubtless correct.
For the record, I have played bass in an Indian bhangra group (based in Bradford) and in a reggae band (in Charles Town, Jamaica). Your correspondent will presumably wonder how I could be a member of UKIP (Clue: I’m a great believer in the Commonwealth).
The same edition of the Echo has a piece on the impending tour by one Ricky Gervais, someone whom I used to respect. That was until a remark he ‘tweeted’ last June: “It’s taken a referendum for young people to discover that old people hate them”.

A more toxic and bigoted outburst is hard to imagine. I will certainly not be attending the Mayflower on June 18.
