A CADNAM man has been presented with a special honour after spending more than 82 years in the Scouting movement.

Having been part of the group for more than three-quarters of its history, Alan Nossiter was presented with the honour during his 90th birthday celebrations at Copythorne Scouts headquarters.

Surrounded by friends at family at the event last month, County Scout Commissioner Adam Jollans said it gave him much pleasure to present Alan with the Commendation Award.

More than eight decades ago, Alan started as a Wolf Cub and was a scout during his service in the Merchant Navy. He then became a leader and commissioner in the Portsmouth District. But it was his remarkable initiative in becoming the first voluntary warden at the Lyons Copse Scout Camp Site near Sheffield that he is renowned for; some 25,000 scouts attended camping nights at the camp every year.

Alan lives near Cadam and takes an active part in the community along with his wife Freda, particularly at St Mary's Church; he is also a trustee of the 2nd New Forest (Stanley's Own) Scout Group.
